The Revd Chan Hin Cheung, in his sermon, used 'from one's heart to one's life' as the theme for his sermon. He reflected on the life of the Church, and drew an analogy with heart surgery. He pointed out that trouble with the heart may also lead to problems with one's life. When a person or the Church faces a crisis, a heart operation is very often the answer.
The Revd Chan Hin Cheung also pointed out that some believers and leaders refused to have any breakthrough in their work for the Church. Thus, progress remains stagnant. On the other hand, there are those who wanted to go beyond the normal boundaries and tried to look for worldly answers and seek worldly praise. He reminded the Church and believers that it has to be careful in exercising any leap of faith.
He encouraged the audience by reminding them of Philippians 2:1-13: we should have Christ's love in our hearts. We must be humble like Jesus. He had the nature of God, but chose to take the nature of a servant. He became like man. We must, therefore, learn from the example of Christ.

The HKSKH Third General Synod Held a Eucharist
Revd Ian Lam Sau-fung delivered the sermon
The General Synod maintained the unity of the Province
The HKSKH Third General Synod was held on the evening of 14th September, 2004 at St. Paul's Church together with the Eucharist. The Revd Ian Lam preached.
The Revd Ian Lam explained the origins of the synod meeting. He pointed out that the first structured meeting held by the Church was conducted in 49 AD in Jerusalem. The issue discussed in that meeting was one that would result in either the continuing existence or demise of the Church. Since Paul did not require the Gentiles to follow the ritual of circumcision nor to obey the law of Moses, this infuriated the Christians in Jerusalem. Two opposing camps emerged that nearly drove the Church to the point of disintegration. Fortunately, not only did the Church survive, it also became much stronger afterwards.
The Revd Lam's detailed explanation of the origin of the synod was to point out that the purpose of such a meeting was to bind, solidify, and promote the unity of the Church, and to dissolve any possible conflicts that might divide the Church. HKSKH was established six years ago. It consists of three Dioceses and one missionary area. Even though six years is not seen as a very long time, the Revd Lam said that it is long enough for all the
parts within the Church to develop and to further understand their particular roles within the Church. There has also been sufficient time for parishioners to cultivate a certain bond with their own Diocese. He reminded us that we should be grateful for such a blessing. He also pointed out that the Province is not simply a carbon copy of the Dioceses and the missionary area. In fact, each possesses its own individual characteristics, enabling believers from different areas to stimulate, exchange, debate, and learn from each other, so that believers will lead an abundant life.
